It
is my pleasure to announce the inauguration of the National Campaign to Reduce
Electricity Consumption in the kingdom under the patronage of His Royal
Highness the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdallah bin Abdel Aziz,

May
Allah guard him,whose speech strongly delivers its context and objectives and
encourages us to exert more effort to strongly cooperate in discovering
appropriate ways to improve energy consumption in order to reduce consumers’
bills and put a limit to the Çincrease of price resulting from higher
consumption,
especially over the summer and decrease the growing demand on
electricity especially the maximum load as well as to provide the necessary
investments to construct new stations that would only work during peak times
and provide
.resources and fuel and care for the environment |
The demand for electrical energy is
growing exponentially (6-7% yearly) as an expected result of the Kingdom’s fast
economical and constructional growth.
So far, electricity services have reached
over five million consumers and the generating capacity became about thirty
five thousand mega watts including the stations of the National Company of
Desalination as well as other major producers. It is expected that through the
development of necessary programs to provide electrical demands until 2015 to
serve more than 7 million consumers and to reach a maximum load of 54 thousand
mega watts which means the addition of extra generating capacities of 22
thousand mega watts as well as investing in approximately a hundred and fifty
two billion riyals.
The launching of a national campaign to
promote better electricity consumption and improve its quality, which is the
first of its kind, will be followed by similar campaigns over the coming years
to increase self-awareness and cultivate the idea of reducing energy among
family members and society and to stop waste and introduce appropriate
techniques and technology necessary to reduce the consumption of electrical
energy.
Finally, I thank His Royal Highness the
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdallah bin Abdel Aziz, May Allah guard
him, for his patronage of this campaign. I also thank the council in charge of
overseeing this campaign representing the Ministry of Electricity and Production,
the Saudi Company of Electricity, the King Abdel Aziz City of science and
Technology, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, King Saud’s University
and all parties involved in this campaign and all of you for attending this
ceremony.
The Ministry is looking forward to
everyone’s participation in this campaign and to note any suggestions and
experiences that will help promote this substantial subject in order to achieve
out goal in maintaining electrical energy consumption to a normal level.
